Need input on the Automotive Engine Preformace Program??

I have very little interest in working on cars.  I'm just...well...to make a long story short, I don't have the temperament to be an auto mechanic.

I'm not looking to start a new job or career-my current job situation is pretty stable right now.

Growing up, I never had anyone around to teach me anything about cars, basic maintenance or the like.  The only thing I was taught was how to fill up the car with gas and add window washer fluid-because as a "girl" girls "didn't need to learn this sort of thing."

Fast forward.  I'm now 35.  I can change a tire if I had to.  I have towing on my car insurance so if I get a flat tire, a tow company will put the spare on for me.  Or tow me home or to a garage.  I've managed to figure over the years to check my tire pressure and learned how to add fluids like break fluid, check my oil ect.

I'm currently enrolled in the Nutrition, Health and Science program and when I'm done, I'm seriously considering enrolling in the Automotive Engine Performance Program.  And I'm wondering if it's the right program for me or if one of the others would be a better fit for me.

I'm not really interested in taking any national exam or certification.  Be cool to put on my resume though.

What I'm wanting to learn is basic automotive repair.  No, I'm not planning on suddenly working on my car or anyone else's.

I just want to learn about how cars are fixed, the tools involved and getting comfortable looking under the hood of the family car, having a basic idea of how things are supposed to work and when a mechanic talks to me saying "you need this and this done" I'm not looking at him or her with this "uumm.....why does thingy one need to be replaced?  How does that gizmo make thing # 3 work and what is it doing x a bad thing?"  And not have them get frustrated at me having to explain something or dumb it down for me.  I want to have some idea of what the heck they are talking about.

Is the auto engine performance program a good thing for me to take to get a good understanding of how car engines work?  Would it be super hard for me to complete considering I know very little about cars?  Would I get overwhelmed and frustrated by all the info?
